Apple has added one more computer based intelligence startup to its rundown of acquisitions. Based in Canada, DarwinAI focuses on forward-thinking technology that specializes in monitoring components during manufacturing for improvement. Bloomberg reported that efficiency has improved

Apple and DarwinAI have not announced this partnership, but several members of the startup team joined his Apple machine learning team in January, according to his LinkedIn profile

DarwinAI has raised over $15 million in  various rounds from investors including BDC Capital's Deep Tech Venture Fund, Honeywell Ventures, Obvious Ventures, and Inovia Capital. BDC Capital affirmed on its site that it had gotten the exit from DarwinAI, while Clear Endeavors refreshed its portfolio to mirror the startup's securing.

BDC Capital and Obvious Ventures had not commented on this story as of this writing. We've connected with Apple for input and will refresh the article assuming we hear back.

As Bloomberg pointed out in a report, DarwinAI not only contributes to production efficiency, but also uses technology that makes AI models smaller and faster. This could help with the on-device generative AI features that Apple plans to introduce with iOS 18 this year.

Apple has been slow to release GenAI-based features  compared to competitors such as OpenAI, Google, Meta, and Microsoft.  Tim Cook said in February that the company plans to introduce these features "later this year."

"We continue to invest significant time and effort and look forward to sharing details of our ongoing efforts in this area later this year," Cook said on his quarterly conference call with analysts. ” he said.

Last year, Apple's CEO acknowledged investment in GenAI efforts. As per Apple's work postings, the organization is thinking about involving his artificial intelligence in different regions both inside and remotely, including Siri, engineer devices, and client service.
